What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Coordinator position at North Middlesex Regional School District?
Reporting to the Director of Special Education and working directly with Building Principals, the Special Education Coordinator’s role is to assist teachers and administration, subject to Special Education Laws, with the educational development of children with special education needs throughout the district.

Ensure that all Massachusetts Special Education regulations are followed and implemented. Assist in the administration of the special education procedures that have been designated throughout the school.
Responsible for tracking restraint data, reviewing district restraint reports and ensuring proper documentation.
Participate in long-range strategic planning and program projections regarding programming, staffing, enrollment growth, and facility needs
Assist in developing workshops and trainings for staff in order to improve compliance, instruction and programming for students with disabilities
Coordinate with building Teams when a referral is made to a district program, and assist with the program referral process.
Conduct observations of special education staff and provide TeachPoint observations to support the educator evaluation process.
Assist in the individual Team Meetings to be held; chair all Team meetings as assigned.
Compile and coordinate assessments for the purpose of determining the best combination of regular and special educational services for each school age child identified as eligible for special education.
Supervise and coordinate evaluation teams as part of the eligibility process.
Monitor and complete the paperwork process associated with special education compliance, including overseeing the development of Individualized Education Programs while maintaining timelines.
Read and review necessary I.E.P.s for compliance and accuracy.
The Coordinator of Special Education will attend/chair team meetings as determined by the Director of Special Education or as requested by building administration.
Coordinate students' transition in substantially separate programs on I.E.P.s from elementary to middle school and middle to high school.
Assist in the tracking of students in out-of-district placements (as assigned by the Director of Special Education).
Ensure timely communication with staff and parents. Involve parents in the evaluation and formation of educational planning.
Monitor the progress of special education students using available data, including progress reports, report cards, district-wide assessments, and standardized testing.
Communicate effectively with administration about inclusion, specialized programs, staff and students.
Promote and safeguard the confidentiality of student records according to the student record regulations. Assist in the data collection for state mandated special education reports.
Any other relative duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
