The Assistant Varsity Outdoor Track Coach supports the Head Varsity Track Coach in all aspects of the program, including athlete development, practice planning, competition management, and mentorship. This coach helps foster a positive, inclusive, and educational environment while emphasizing skill development, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship for all student-athletes. Key Responsibilities Coaching & Athlete Development Assist in teaching proper techniques for sprinting, distance, relays, jumping, and throwing events. Provide individualized instruction to student-athletes to improve skills, performance, and confidence. Encourage goal setting, perseverance, and teamwork among all athletes. Support athletes’ physical conditioning, mental preparation, and overall growth. Practice & Competition Support Assist in planning and conducting structured practices for all track and field events. Support meet-day operations, including event assignments, warm-ups, substitutions, and in-competition guidance. Help develop meet strategies and provide observations for athlete improvement. Reinforce rules, etiquette, and ethical conduct during practices and competitions. Team Culture & Mentorship Promote a positive, inclusive, and accountable team environment. Encourage leadership, personal responsibility, and academic excellence among student-athletes. Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and respect. Support social, emotional, and athletic development of all athletes. Program Administration Assist with tryouts, athlete evaluations, and roster management. Maintain communication with athletes, parents, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and progress. Help manage equipment, uniforms, and logistical needs for practices and competitions. Collaborate with the Head Coach to ensure consistency in program philosophy, training, and athlete development. Safety & Compliance Ensure proper supervision and safety of student-athletes during practices, meets, and travel. Follow all MIAA, NFHS, and North Middlesex School District policies. Maintain required certifications, including First Aid, CPR, and concussion training. Reinforce safe warm-up, cool-down, and injury-prevention practices. Qualifications Required Knowledge of track and field fundamentals, event-specific techniques, and training methods. Ability to teach, mentor, and motivate high school student-athletes. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Completion of required coaching certifications and successful background checks. Preferred Prior coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Competitive track or field experience. Familiarity with modern strength, conditioning, and sport-specific training programs. Experience working with diverse student-athlete populations. Work Environment & Schedule Practices primarily after school; meets may include evenings and weekends. Participation in preseason planning, skill clinics, and optional offseason development programs. Collaboration with Head Coach and athletic department staff to support athlete growth and program success.

Salary : $4,295 - $4,907
