The JV2 Boys Volleyball Coach is responsible for leading the junior varsity 2 (JV2) boys volleyball program, focusing on skill development, fundamentals, teamwork, and preparation for higher-level competition. This coach fosters a positive, inclusive, and educational environment while supporting the social, emotional, and athletic growth of student-athletes. The JV2 coach collaborates closely with varsity and assistant coaches to ensure consistent program philosophy and progression.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
Teach and reinforce volleyball fundamentals including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and defensive techniques.
Develop structured practices that emphasize skill development, conditioning, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Provide individualized feedback to help student-athletes improve performance, confidence, and game understanding.
Encourage perseverance, effort, and positive competition.
Practice & Game Management
Plan, organize, and conduct JV2 practices that align with the overall program philosophy.
Manage lineups, rotations, and in-game adjustments during JV2 matches.
Support development of strategies and tactical understanding appropriate for JV2 competition.
Reinforce rules, ethical conduct, and proper sportsmanship during practices and matches.
Team Culture & Mentorship
Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team environment.
Encourage leadership, responsibility, and academic success among student-athletes.
Serve as a role model demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and respect.
Support social, emotional, and athletic growth of JV2 players.
Program Administration
Assist with tryouts, player evaluations, and roster management for the JV2 team.
Communicate with athletes, parents, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and progress.
Support equipment management, uniforms, and logistical needs for practices and matches.
Collaborate with varsity and assistant coaches to maintain consistency in skill development and team culture.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure proper supervision and safety of all student-athletes during practices, matches, and travel.
Follow MIAA, NFHS, and North Middlesex School District policies.
Maintain required certifications including First Aid, CPR, and concussion training.
Reinforce safe warm-up, cool-down, and injury-prevention techniques.
Qualifications
Required
Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and skill development.
Ability to teach, mentor, and motivate middle and high school athletes.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Completion of required coaching certifications and successful background checks.
Preferred
Previous coaching or competitive playing experience.
Experience developing student-athletes for progression to higher-level teams.
Familiarity with modern strength, conditioning, and sport-specific training techniques.

Work Environment & Schedule
Practices typically held after school; matches may include evenings and weekends.
Participation in preseason planning, skill clinics, and optional offseason development programs.

Salary : $3,646 - $4,263
