Position Overview
The Junior Varsity Baseball Coach is responsible for leading the JV program in alignment with the overall vision of the high school baseball program. The coach focuses on developing fundamental skills, preparing athletes for varsity-level competition, and fostering a positive, team-centered environment. This role requires strong instructional ability, effective communication, and a commitment to the values of education-based athletics.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Player Development
Teach and reinforce fundamental baseball skills including hitting, fielding, pitching, baserunning, and game awareness.
Implement a player-development approach consistent with the varsity program’s philosophy and systems.
Provide individualized instruction and clear, constructive feedback to help athletes progress.
Emphasize skill growth, confidence-building, and preparation for advancement to varsity-level play.
Practice & Game Management
Plan and conduct structured, engaging practices that challenge players and build foundational skills.
Manage all aspects of JV games, including lineups, substitutions, in-game instruction, and situational strategy.
Coordinate with the Varsity Head Coach to align practice content, terminology, and team expectations.
Oversee warm-ups, post-game discussions, and continuous teaching moments during competition.
Culture & Team Standards
Establish and maintain high expectations for sportsmanship, effort, and accountability.
Model leadership, professionalism, and positive communication at all times.
Promote a team culture built around respect, inclusivity, and doing things “the right way.”
Support academic achievement and personal development of all student-athletes.
Program Operations & Administration
Assist with tryouts, evaluations, and roster decisions at the JV level.
Maintain equipment, uniforms, and practice spaces in a safe and organized manner.
Coordinate communication with players and families regarding schedules, expectations, and team updates.
Collaborate with varsity staff to ensure continuity across all levels of the baseball program.
Safety, Compliance & Supervision
Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and games.
Uphold school, conference, and state athletic association policies.
Maintain current compliance certifications (CPR/First Aid, concussion training, etc.).
Promote and enforce safe training techniques and injury-prevention strategies.
Qualifications
Required
Strong understanding of baseball fundamentals, teaching progressions, and game strategy.
Ability to motivate, support, and communicate effectively with high school athletes.
Commitment to creating a positive, development-focused environment.
Completion of required coaching certifications and background check.
Preferred
Prior coaching experience, especially at the high school or youth levels.
Competitive playing experience in baseball.
Experience collaborating within a multi-level coaching staff.
Familiarity with strength training, skill development, and offseason programming.
Work Environment & Availability
Practices typically occur on weekday afternoons; games may include evenings and occasional weekends.
Participation in preseason meetings, clinics, and offseason activities (within school and state guidelines).
Expected to collaborate closely with the Varsity Head Coach to support the long-term success of the baseball program.
Salary : $4,370 - $4,907
