Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a Unified Basketball Head Coach to lead and develop the Unified Basketball program. The Unified Basketball program is designed to foster inclusion, teamwork, and athletic development by pairing students with and without disabilities in a supportive and collaborative team environment. The Head Coach will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program, including practice planning, game-day operations, and the emotional and social development of all student-athletes.
The successful candidate will be committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship while promoting the physical, emotional, and social development of all players.
Key Responsibilities:
Practice & Skill Development:
Plan and lead daily practices that focus on developing basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and individual skills.
Adapt coaching methods to meet the diverse needs of all athletes, ensuring every participant can contribute and develop their skills.
Encourage collaboration and communication among all team members, both athletes with and without disabilities.
Game Day Preparation & Support:
Organize and prepare the team for games, including conducting warm-ups, player rotations, and ensuring all athletes are ready to participate.
Offer in-game support and feedback, emphasizing teamwork, positive behavior, and sportsmanship.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes during competition, making game-day decisions in collaboration with assistants and staff.
Team Building & Support:
Foster a team environment that values inclusion, respect, and encouragement.
Support the personal growth of all athletes by promoting confidence, leadership, and mutual respect among teammates.
Provide guidance and mentorship to both athletes and assistant coaches, ensuring a positive and cohesive program culture.
Communication & Collaboration:
Maintain open and regular communication with athletes, parents, and school administration about team progress, expectations, and upcoming events.
Collaborate with other coaches, staff, and support personnel to ensure the success of the Unified Basketball program.
Work closely with the athletic director to manage program logistics, including scheduling, equipment needs, and transportation.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure that all team activities and practices adhere to school policies, MIAA guidelines, and any other relevant regulations.
Prioritize the safety and well-being of all athletes by following concussion management and injury prevention protocols.
Maintain required certifications, including Concussion Training (NFHS or CDC-approved), First Aid & CPR Certification, and CORI/SORI Background Check.

Previous coaching experience, preferably in basketball, with a commitment to inclusion and fostering teamwork.
Ability to work with athletes of varying abilities and backgrounds, ensuring every player is engaged and supported.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Passion for promoting inclusion and creating a positive, supportive athletic environment.
Ability to motivate and inspire athletes, emphasizing personal growth, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Must meet all district and MIAA coaching requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with students with disabilities or in inclusive settings.
Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and strategies.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Coach Stipend Schedule.
