LOCATION: Pennridge North Middle School
AVAILABLE: July 1, 2025
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Building Principal
COMPENSATION: Salary in accordance with the PEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Counselor Education from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Pennsylvania certification in guidance.
- Excellent communication skills
- Prior educational counseling or school experience preferred.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:
Provide school guidance services, including individual, small-group, and large-group counseling;staff and student orientation; test preparation, administration and interpretation; information management and dissemination; and collaboration with staff, administration, and the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Counsel individually or in groups with selected populations of students.
2. Consult with staff, parents, and community on issues concerning student needs.
3. Organize, administer, and interpret standardized assessment instruments.
4. Provide orientation activities for students and parents new to the school.
5. Secure, review, and maintain student records. Disseminate information as needed.
6. Participate in the crisis intervention process.
7. Promote a positive school climate through programs and activities.
8. Pursue opportunities for professional development to enhance guidance skills.
9. Maintain ongoing communication with students, staff, and parents to exchange information and foster strong relationships
10. Inform parents on behalf of students when external resources are needed.
11. Participate as a consultant on the Instructional Support Team, Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation, and Individualized Educational Planning Team, as needed.
12. Coordinate the gifted screening process and student evaluations.
13. Facilitate the transition of the student population at all levels.
14. Coordinate school-wide prevention programs.
15. Facilitate Developmental Guidance Program.
16. Provide timely and effective services to students and parents, while promoting awareness of counseling programs and services.
17. Collaborate with administration and staff in identifying and addressing the needs of exceptional students.
18. Collect and use data for the purpose of improving programs and services to students.
19. Facilitate effective career exploration and decision-making by means of interest inventories, computer technology, and other strategies.
20. Assist in the process of career awareness, goal setting, planning, and decision-making.
21. Counsel students in the selection of courses appropriate to their goals.
22. Assist the administration in the scheduling process.
23. Other activities as assigned by the building administrator or Director of Guidance.
