Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

Responsible for supporting the finance team in performing basic accounting duties, including data entry, reconciliations, and invoice processing to support accurate and timely accounting and assisting with month-end closing procedures.

Essential Functions Statements(s):

•   Assist Director of Finance with coordination of accounting functions and programs.
•   Assist the Director of Finance with approval of accounts payable transactions including payroll.
• Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
•   Prepare financial analyses and reports.
•  Assist with revenue and expenditure projections.
•  Assist with preparing and monitoring budgets.
•  Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
•  Assist with annual audit preparations.
•  Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
•  Contribute to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
•  Manages major purchases of goods and services to meet Utility needs, insuring cost efficiency and procurement policy compliance.
• Responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant billing process for Pretreatment Customers.
• Perform other accounting duties and support all staff as required or assigned.
• Assist with processing payroll and payroll liabilities as needed when the payroll administrator is out of the office.
• Assist the Director of Finance with the month end Financial Statements and Cash Disbursements for the North Little Rock Wastewater Committee.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:    Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.

Experience:   

•    5 years of accounting experience.
•    Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP.
• Strong financial analysis skills.
•    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
•    Strong organizational and stress management skills.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
• Ability to work with little to no supervision.

Computer Skills: Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office and accounting software.  Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to work in an office environment Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
