Duties
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards such as literacy, math, and early childhood education principles.
- Support students with disabilities through behavioral management strategies, physical assistance, and communication support, including American Sign Language when applicable.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning objectives and promote student engagement.
- Help manage classroom behavior by applying behavior management techniques tailored to students' individual needs and IEP goals.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and execute effective support strategies for student success.
- Support students’ social-emotional development by fostering positive interactions and encouraging self-regulation skills.
- Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
Skills
- Experience working with children, especially those with special education needs or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior management for students with behavioral disorders or autism spectrum disorders.
- Familiarity with curriculum development, lesson planning, and literacy education strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and American Sign Language if applicable.
- Understanding of childhood development principles, early childhood education practices, and preschool or toddler care experience.
- Strong collaboration skills to work seamlessly with educators, therapists, parents, and other professionals for comprehensive student support.
- Basic math skills and experience supporting classroom activities in subjects like math or Montessori-based preschool settings.
