Position: Boat Captain
North Lake Tahoe Boat Rental is currently accepting applications for the Summer 2026 season. You must have housing in North Lake Tahoe, Reno, or Carson City to be considered. We are in a housing shortage and it is extremely difficult to relocate. Must have 1-2 seasons of experience driving boats and working with guests. If you are comfortable behind the helm, give excellent customer service, and can learn and demonstrate company values, we want you on our team!
Position: USCG Certified Boat Captain
Pay: On dock starting at $20/ hour pooled tips. On charter $50/hour tips
Job Type: Full-time, Seasonal, 4 Days a week, 10- 12 hour shifts
Work Site: 7220 North Lake Blvd, Tahoe Vista, CA 96148
Training Period: May 11th- 15th. Two week probationary training period May 16th - 30th.
Season: June 1st -October 15th. Possible earlier start date. Advancement opportunities, potential for year round employment.

We are seeking a professional, safety-focused USCG Licensed Captain (OUPV 6-pack minimum) with experience on Lake Tahoe who wants to use their current skills and maritime experience to contribute to the growth of our company while fostering an exceptional guest experience and improving their skills throughout the season.
This role requires outstanding customer service, confident boat handling skills, strong situational awareness, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Summer on the lake is a constant hustle. From navigating changing weather and boat traffic to managing guests and maintaining vessel readiness, captains must juggle multiple priorities with professionalism and composure. We offer guaranteed hours working on the dock if captained rentals are not fully booked. Our captains are leaders on and off the water. You set the tone for safety, fun, and five-star service.

Boat Captain Job Description:
- Operates 21’-26’ open bow or pontoon passenger vessel on Lake Tahoe.
- Maintain a clean boat before and after every rental, up to 3 rentals a day.
- Maintain proper safety equipment onboard every vessel.
- Have knowledge of Lake Tahoe weather patterns, such as the afternoon sierra winds, and safely operate vessels in any condition.
- Keep up to date on weather/ wind through the day and relay concerns to managers.
- Have knowledge of Lake Tahoe geography
- Have in depth knowledge of all USCG laws and NLTBR company policies/ rules and correct guest behavior while on charter accordingly.
- Maintain a safe environment on the boat at all times, docked, anchored, etc….
- Fuel boats as needed.
- Capable of basic boat maintenance and repairs.
- Checks in/ out guests using iPads or cell phones.
- Collects personal payment from guests through cash, venmo, or zelle at the hourly price as outlined by NLTBR.
- Consistently demonstrates safety, efficiency, professionalism, and teamwork standards as outlined by NLBTR.
- Delivers exceptional customer service on every charter.
- Ask customers for Google reviews and follow up on their experience to constantly improve our service.

- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the working area as well as daily assigned zone.
- Captains will be fully trained in all dockhand duties for when you are not captaining. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning boats, fueling boats, valeting buoy customers to their personal boats, uncovering/ covering buoy customer personal boats, maintaining cleanliness and organization of dock, guest, and employee spaces, give safety speeches to non captained rental groups, send out/ bring in non captained rental groups, any other necessary duty as outlined by NLBTR.
Requirements:
Must have a current USCG licence to carry passengers for hire. OUPV 6-pack minimum.
Ability to swim.
Reliable transportation to work before 7:45am everyday.
Good health and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must submit results of DOT drug screen urinalysis prior to employment. Results of the drug screen must indicate no use of illegal or dangerous drugs, including marijuana.
Willingness to enroll in random drug testing through the Maritime consortium for the duration of your employment through NLTBR.
Must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to conduct routine daily tasks with limited to no supervision.
Ability to naturally build rapport with any guest.
Exemplify safety, efficiency, professionalism, and teamwork in all tasks.
Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Compensation/benefits:
DOE starting $20/ hour pooled tips while on the dock. $50/hour individual tips while on charter. Paychecks are distributed bi-weekly.
Guaranteed hours working on the dock when not booked as a captain.
Company Uniform (includes bathing suits, shirts, sweatshirts, hats).
3-day weekends for more personal time in the summer.
Company boats for personal use on days off (depending on availability).
Occasional employee meals/coffee/BBQ - Cooked on site or bought for employees

Company is required to withhold applicable federal taxes from paychecks.
