Candidates must submit a completed application and a formal placement request from the sponsoring college/university. North Kansas City Schools welcomes applications for the upcoming semester.
Students requesting to student teach in the district are only accepted from a sponsoring university/college. Student teachers are asked to refrain from contacting individual teachers or building administrators to obtain information for a student teaching placement.
Qualifications to Student Teach:
- All student teachers must follow the NKC School Board of Education policies and procedures.
- Participation in the co-teach model of student teaching.
- Completed application and a formal placement request from the sponsoring college/university.
- Student teachers will be placed based on their university recommendations and potential certification areas, subject to the availability of qualified cooperating teachers.
- Student teachers must obtain a substitute certificate through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Dese.gov) before starting student teaching.
- Student teachers are allowed to substitute if they follow the university guidelines and have completed the necessary steps with Penmac Education staffing. (KCedu@penmac.com)
College students will be working directly with NKC students. Before beginning the assignment in our schools, an FBI/background check will be required. FBI background checks are to be scheduled through our Human Resources office. (816-321-5000). This is free for students and meets the requirements for obtaining a substitute certificate.
Paid Student Teaching:
- Candidates who choose to student teach in NKC Schools may be eligible to receive a $1,000 monthly stipend.
- Stipends are limited and awarded through a competitive interview process. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
