General Summary
Manages and maintains current business relationships and seeks new accounts. Acts as primary loan officer for branch deals and indirect requests. Is responsible for a portfolio of large businesses and managing a variety of commercial loans. Interviews applicants and analyzes applicant’s financial status and credit to determine feasibility of granting loans. Refers loans to senior lending authority or officer’s loan committee for loan decisioning. Analyzes sources of financial information, such as reporting services, credit bureaus, other companies, main office files, and branches to determine profitability of loan. Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of commercial lending. Verifies loan documents are complete and accurate according to policy. Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Reports to the Business Banking Development Manager and have 7 to 10 years of experience in the field. At times will lead and direct the work of others (branches, underwriters, & other relationship managers).
Principal Accountabilities (90%)
Relationship/Portfolio Management, Credit Analysis, and Business Development (80%):
• Focuses on the development of commercial lending and deposit relationships, primarily generating new commercial memberships to the credit union, while ensuring that relationships with existing commercial members are properly serviced, allowing the credit union to deepen relationships across the facets of its core business.
• Generates a minimum of 50% of total production through “new business,” generated by a minimum of 50% of all efforts being outbound, through solicitation or community involvement.
• Supplements direct business deposit and loan portfolio production by working directly with branch staff to solicit high-quality loan originations and depository relationships.
• Manages and maintains current business relationships as well as current commercial/business loans in the credit union’s portfolio that are unassigned.
• Manages a significant portion of C&I loans in the MBL portfolio. These loans also include graded portfolio credits and workout loans.
• Reviews loan applicants’ financial statements and develops assessment of creditworthiness through identification of strengths and weaknesses of applicants’ historical financial performance and other relevant factors.
• Makes appropriate lending decision recommendations to senior lender or credit committee.
• Analyzes, underwrites, and manages business and commercial real estate loan requests of any size, prepares written loan memorandum, order loan-related documentation, and track loan through process from arrival at Business Banking through loan boarding.
• Provides continuous review and manages the business loan portfolio in order to analyze and recognize potential portfolio weaknesses, business financial viability, and all other credit determinations for safety and soundness of outstanding credit facilities.
• Provides frontline staff and other Business Banking lenders with support, guidance, and assistance regarding business-loan analysis and credit worthiness determinations.
• Assists members and branch staff with questions concerning the credit union’s cash management and other business products and services.
Community Involvement (10%):
• Represents the credit union in community organizations and activities to enhance the credit union’s image. Maintains and enhances a referral network for business development opportunities.
Secondary Accountabilities (10%):
• Performs ad-hoc analysis reports for appropriate management.
• Provides training and support to staff regarding products and services offered through Business Banking (Facilitate Business Banking New Accounts and Business Lending Classes).
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Education, Certifications or Licenses
• A bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or an equivalent field; or equivalent work experience required. Requires 7 to 10 years of experience in the field.
• Extensive knowledge of business accounts, business and commercial real estate lending, and practices, with emphasis on business loan analysis, business loan delinquencies, and business development.
• A thorough knowledge of customer relations and credit risk. Must have extensive knowledge of relevant Federal and State regulations relating to all aspects of business accounts and commercial loans.
• Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Office Suite or comparable programs.
