Job Overview

North Idaho Decks is seeking an experienced Deck Builder Crew Lead to oversee residential deck and roof-cover projects in Sandpoint and the surrounding area. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with strong experience in construction, framing, deck building, roofing, and roof-cover construction.

The Crew Lead will work alongside the crew, coordinate daily jobsite activities, maintain high standards of craftsmanship and safety, and keep projects moving according to schedule. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, comfortable leading others, and able to communicate professionally with customers throughout the construction process.

Pay will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and ability to lead projects successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and work alongside a construction crew on deck, stair, railing, roofing, and roof-cover projects.
  • Coordinate daily jobsite activities and assign tasks to crew members.
  • Construct wood-framed decks using composite and wood decking materials.
  • Frame and build roof covers, pergolas, stairs, landings, and related outdoor structures.
  • Install decking, fascia, railing systems, roofing materials, and project finishes.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, measurements, and material specifications.
  • Maintain project schedules and communicate progress or potential delays to management.
  • Verify measurements and job requirements before beginning each phase of construction.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company standards, project plans, and applicable building codes.
  • Train and support crew members while maintaining a productive and respectful work environment.
  • Enforce jobsite safety practices and ensure tools and equipment are used properly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with customers during the build process.
  • Use a personal truck for work-related transportation, including towing company-provided trailers when needed.
  • Assist with transporting tools, equipment, and materials to and from jobsites.

Qualifications

  • Previous professional experience in construction and carpentry is required.
  • Deck-building and wood-framing experience is required.
  • Roofing and roof-cover construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous crew leadership, foreman, or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lead projects while also performing hands-on construction work.
  • Ability to read plans, take accurate measurements, and calculate material requirements.
  • Knowledge of proper framing, fastening, flashing, waterproofing, and roofing practices.
  • Experience installing composite decking and railing systems is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Effective communication and customer-service skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding construction work in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must own a dependable truck and be willing and able to use it for work purposes.
  • Must be comfortable towing work trailers.
  • Must provide personal hand tools and a tool belt appropriate for the position.
  • Sales experience is not required.

Tools and Equipment

The employee must provide their own basic hand tools and tool belt. North Idaho Decks will provide trailers, larger tools, and specialized equipment needed to complete projects.

Compensation

Pay is based on the candidate’s construction experience, deck-building skills, roof-cover experience, leadership ability, and overall qualifications.

Pay: $35.00 - $42.00 per hour
