The Sous Chef will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and cooking of food at North Hill and other dining operations.

Pay Range: $28-$32/hour

Job Specific Duties

- Assists and possess the willingness to learn executive tasks i.e., scheduling, payroll, menu composition, inventory management, cyclical ordering from a broad line of vendors, etc.
- Operates and maintains all kitchen equipment
- Prioritizes and delegates tasks to the staff, and monitors their progress, efficiency, and quality of work
- Assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability of the Kitchen Manager in their absence
- Inspects special diet orders to assure that the correct diet is served to the Residents
- Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submits to the Kitchen Manager and Food & Nutrition Services Manager
- Reviews menus prior to preparation of food
- Coordinates dining service with other departments as necessary
- Works with the department’s management as necessary and implement recommended changes as required
- Ensures that food handling, food preparation, and food presentation procedures are followed in accordance with established policies
- Prepares meals in accordance with planned menus, standardized recipes and special diet orders
- Serves food in accordance with established portion control procedures
- Assists in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished
- Ensures that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Assists in establishing food service production line, etc., to assure that meals are prepared on time
- Completes all regulatory compliances timely
- Provides caring, thoughtful and engaging service at all times
- Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to immediate supervisor
- Assists with establishing policies and procedures
- Identifies and recommends expansions to technology and equipment
- Assists in drafting and implementing the department’s budget
- Serves and participates in strategic planning process as directed
- Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements
- Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong customer support skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public
- Work professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Must be able to communicate effectively with Residents, Team Members and Visitors. When working in Resident areas, must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Must be knowledgeable of practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
- Ability to build a cohesive team while maintaining productivity
- Complies with protection of health information (HIPAA) safeguards
- At least 5 years of experience in a culinary environment including cooking, purchasing, receiving, and safe food handling; healthcare setting experience preferred
- 2 years in a leadership position preferred
- 1 year of dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred
- Current with ServeSafe certification
- Sanitation/HAACP certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
