Work Year: 2026-2027 School Year

 

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000 (commensurate with experience)



Position Description

The Districtwide Occupational Therapist (OT) develops and administers school-based occupational therapy services to eligible students from Pre-K through graduation. This role travels between multiple district sites to perform evaluations, design Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans, and provide clinical direction to support staff. The ultimate goal is to remove barriers to learning and maximize student independence in the educational environment. 

 

Education, Qualifications and Expectations

  • Education: Minimum of a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Valid state license as a registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience: School-based special education practice heavily preferred.
  • Mobility: Possession of a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle to travel between district school buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students' fine motor, gross motor, visual-motor, and sensory processing capabilities.
  • IEP Development: Analyze testing data to create measurable goals, modifications, and treatment strategies for student Individualized Education Programs.
  • Direct Intervention: Provide individual or small-group therapy sessions to build essential classroom skills like handwriting, attention, and organization.
  • District Consultation: Advise teachers, principals, and parents on sensory strategies and instructional modifications to ensure the classroom supports student needs.
  • Assistive Technology: Recommend, configure, and train staff on specialized adaptive equipment, communication tools, and classroom seating.
  • Clinical Supervision: Oversee and guide Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and therapy clerks across the district.
  • Compliance & Records: Maintain meticulous clinical documentation, treatment progress reports, and billing data in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Environmental Assessment: Evaluate school gyms, playgrounds, and classrooms to identify physical barriers and suggest modifications.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
