The North Hampton Police Department is actively recruiting motivated and dedicated professionals to fill full-time police officer positions. We are seeking certified officers (NH or out-of-state equivalent) who are passionate about serving their community and making a positive impact.

Our officers operate out of a brand-new public safety complex, featuring modern technology, a fully equipped fitness facility, and state-of-the-art resources to support effective policing. Located in New Hampshire’s scenic Seacoast Region, North Hampton offers a unique blend of coastal charm and accessibility. With 1.5 miles of Atlantic shoreline, a thriving commercial district, and a population of approximately 4,500, the town provides a high quality of life just a short drive from Boston, MA, Portland, ME, and Manchester, NH.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a certified police academy (NH PSTC or equivalent), or be eligible to attend the NH Police Academy.
  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must pass:
  • Background investigation
  • Psychological examination
  • Polygraph test
  • Physical agility test
  • Medical examination

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Active police officer certification per NH Police Standards & Training Council.
  • Ability to maintain certification and pass a physical fitness test every three years.
  • Prior law enforcement or military experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to public service and community engagement.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary & Compensation

Annual Salary:

  • $67,197.16 to $76,672.56 (based on experience, with potential for advancement within the salary scale)
  • The department operates on a 8-step pay scale
  • Certified officers may be placed at a step that reflects their current experience level

Shift Differential:

  • $0.75/hour for second shift
  • $1.00/hour for midnight shift

Additional Stipends:

  • $200 annual stipend per certification (up to two) for the following specialties:

Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Baton Instructor, OC Instructor, DRE, Taser Instructor, Evidence Custodian, and Physical Fitness Instructor

Detail Rate:

  • $70/hour

Uniform Allowance:

  • $1,000 annually

Educational Incentives:

  • 2% salary increase for a Bachelor's Degree
  • 2.5% salary increase for a Master’s Degree

Longevity Pay:

  • Begins at 3 years of service

  • Complete the Physical Agility Test (PAT).
  • Successful PAT candidates may be invited to an Oral Board Interview.
  • Top candidates proceed to an interview with the Chief of Police.
  • Conditional Offer of Employment pending successful completion of:
  • Background Investigation
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Medical Examination
