What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Staff position at North East Westchester Special Recreation?
North East Westchester Special Recreation is a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic recreation programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. We are seeking DEDICATED & RELIABLE staff to join our team and support participants in our Saturday programs.
Program Details:
- Saturday Clubhouse
- Saturdays, 9:00 AM – 2:15 PM
- Location: St. Theresa School, Briarcliff Manor NY
- Program Dates: Saturdays January 17th- May 2nd
- No program on February 14, 21 and April 4
This program serves children ages 4–16, divided into groups by age. Staff members are assigned to a group and paired with buddies for the day. You will assist participants during activities, support them through transitions, and eat lunch with them to encourage socialization.
We are looking for compassionate and energetic individuals who want to make a difference while creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support and attention to assigned children each week
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants at all times
- Assist children with following group rules and engaging in activities
- Collaborate with the Lead Counselor and team to create a positive experience
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic about working with children
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with individuals with special needs is a plus (not required)
- Flexible, creative, and willing to adapt activities to make them age-appropriate and fun
