What are the responsibilities and job description for the ENTERPRISE ARCHITECT position at NORTH EAST MEDICAL SERVICES?
The Enterprise Architect will serve as a senior technical architecture leader for NEMS, responsible for defining and governing the enterprise architecture across applications, data, integrations, infrastructure, network, security, cloud and business continuity platforms. The role will ensure cohesive architecture across internally developed solutions and vendor platforms.
Working closely with the engineering, clinical, and operations teams, the Enterprise Architect will establish architectural standards, guide platform selection and configuration decisions, and ensure all systems integrate cohesively to support the organization's mission. This role requires a strong engineering foundation combined with the ability to think strategically across the full technology ecosystem of a complex healthcare organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Partners with the software engineering team to provide architectural guidance on internally developed applications, ensuring alignment with enterprise patterns, SRE, scalability requirements, and long-term maintainability.
- Leads architecture evaluation, selection, and configuration of third-party platforms and enterprise systems including EMR, CRM, PACS, Interface Engines, and future platforms.
- Designs and governs integration architecture across internal and external systems, including API strategy, data exchange standards, and healthcare interoperability frameworks such as FHIR and HL7.
- Establishes and maintains enterprise data architecture standards including data governance, data flow documentation, and cross-platform data consistency.
- Evaluates build vs. buy decisions, providing well-reasoned recommendations to technology and executive leadership based on organizational needs, cost, and strategic fit.
- Develops and maintains architectural documentation including reference architectures, system landscape diagrams, integration maps, and decision records.
- Identifies technical risk across the enterprise technology portfolio and develops mitigation strategies and remediation roadmaps.
- Collaborates with NEMS Clinical, Operations, and Technology leadership to translate organizational goals into architectural decisions and platform strategies.
- Ensures all architectural decisions reflect HIPAA, privacy, and security requirements appropriate for a Federally Qualified Health Center.
- Provides options and makes recommendations for a resilient enterprise architecture.
- Stays current on emerging healthcare technology trends, vendor developments, and industry standards to inform strategic planning.
- Serves as the architectural leader across all four IT verticals - Application Management, Analytics & Reporting, Software Development & Innovation, and Infrastructure, establishing standards, reviewing designs, and ensuring cross-vertical architectural cohesion.
- Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a STEM program; advanced degree preferred.
- 7 years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in an architecture or principal engineering role.
- Demonstrated experience architecting and integrating enterprise platforms in a complex, multi-system environment.
- Experience with Capacity Planning, storage architecture, cloud cost governance (finops).
- Hands-on engineering background with proficiency in modern application development, APIs, databases, and Hybrid-cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and DevOps practices including CI/CD pipeline management, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, and environment monitoring.
- Knowledge of building and guiding organizations on Gen AI platforms - AI Assistants and Agents.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex architectural concepts to both technical teams and non-technical executive stakeholders.
- Experience with healthcare enterprise platforms such as Epic, Mirth Connect, radiology systems, or comparable systems strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of CRM and low-code/form platforms such as Salesforce and JotForm in an enterprise context preferred.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA, data privacy regulations, and security architecture in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health organization is a strong plus
LANGUAGE:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Fluency in other languages is an asset.
