EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or current Texas Nurse Aid Certification from the Health and Human Services Commission.
Computer/office experience a plus.
CERTIFICATION :
First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and AED use, biennially
Blood-borne Pathogen/HIV training, annually
Hepatitis B Immunization Series (3 shots) required
Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant (UDCA) training, annually
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Responsible for entering student health data into the HealthCheck System, while providing clerical support and basic healthcare to students, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and as directed and assigned by Health Services.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Displays a high level of accountability in job performance with minimal or no errors.
2. Dispenses prescribed oral medications, inhalers and emergency medications according to District policies and procedures; maintains accurate log of medications dispensed in HealthCheck.
3. Performs basic first aid and emergency care according to District policies and procedures.
4. Documents accurately and appropriately direct care provided to students.
5. Communicates student’s complaints to the Registered Nurse to ensure safety and appropriate care/coverage.
6. Assists the Registered Nurse in communicable disease prevention and control programs.
7. Maintains an efficient and safe clinic including infection control procedures under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
8. Uses universal precautions when providing care.
9. Shares appropriate health information regarding students and teachers with the Registered Nurse and maintains confidentiality of information.
10. Refers health counseling and medical emergency needs to the Registered Nurse.
11. Communicates in person and via the telephone with parents regarding ill students as directed by the Registered Nurse; maintaining appropriateness and courtesy at all times.
12. Assumes the duties of the Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant (UDCA) on campus.
13. Distributes forms/reports to other staff as directed by Registered Nurse.
14. Assumes duties on Critical Response Team.
15. Files and performs clerical duties to support the Registered Nurse in the maintenance of student records and state mandated programs which may include hearing, vision and spinal screenings; acanthosis nigricans and dental screenings; Medication Administration Requests and Physician Requests for Administration of Special Procedures; Maturation; and health fairs.
16. Responsible for restocking and ordering clinic supplies/forms.
17. Assists nurse in review of records for immunization needs of incoming students and exclusion deadlines for state required immunizations - Assists nurse in educating parents on immunization requirements.
18. Maintains confidentiality of information.
19. Reports to work on time every day.
20. Performs additional duties and accepts responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Training for Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant must be provided before the beginning of the school year or as soon as practicable
b. Understanding the proper action to take if the blood glucose levels of a student with diabetes are outside the target ranges indicated by the student's diabetes management and treatment plan
c. Understanding the details of a student's individualized health plan
d. Performing finger-sticks to check blood glucose levels, checking urine ketone levels and recording the results of those checks
e. Properly administering glucagon and insulin and recording the results of the administration
f. Recognizing complications that require seeking emergency assistance
g. Understanding the recommended schedules and food intake for meals and snacks for a student with diabetes, the effect actions to be taken if a student's schedule is disrupted
