NDDOT Hiring Salary:

Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month

Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month

• Applicants who will receive their degree in December 2026 will be considered for the Transportation Engineer I level.

At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Transportation Engineer, you will manage small and medium construction projects and be the lead inspector on large projects. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

You will manage construction projects, monitor contractor operations and assure project is built according to the plans and specs. You will also be responsible for designing projects and preparing plan documents for district designed projects.

Other duties include filling in for project engineer in their absence, preliminary surveys, bridge deck evaluations, construction survey and materials testing, as well as other miscellaneous job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered as a Transportation Engineer II, you must have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, and two years of professional-level engineering work experience. In addition, you must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months of employment.

To be considered as a Transportation Engineer I, you must have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

This position requires a class D driver's license for travel to visit bridges to scope projects.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
