JOB SUMMARY
This position functions as head night custodian as the lead person on the night custodial team. In addition to organizing and overseeing the quality of work of the team, the head night custodian performs custodial duties in an assigned area. The head night custodian coordinates work activities with the head day custodian, cooperatively managing the overall cleanliness and safety of the facility.

- Leads the work of night custodians.
- Reports needed repairs, safety hazards, or other condition that could affect school health, safety, security, or energy conservation.
- Maintains responsibility for building security.
- Evaluates work performed and provides on-the-job training
- Helps co-workers when requested, if possible.
- Practices energy conservation.
- Communicates needs of the team to the Head Day Custodian.
- Makes sure supplies and equipment are available and properly used and maintained.
- Cleans and maintains equipment in work area. Maintains own area.
- Performs minor maintenance such as unplugging toilets and changing light bulbs.
- Performs major, non-routine cleaning as part of summer cleaning teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Evaluated by Custodial Supervisor. Reports to Custodial Supervisor, Head Day Custodian and building Administrator.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a school environment; may experience frequent interruptions; may be required to deal with distraught or angry people. This type of work may involve ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and will involve walking or standing for extended periods. May require repetitive motion, bending, kneeling and stooping. Must have the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle/work with various materials and objects. Must have physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. The workplace has exposure to varying levels of dust, fumes from cleaners and other hazardous and/or unpleasant conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
A minimum of 6 months recent successful work experience. Previous experience involving the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of procedures for building use activities; knowledge of and follows the Custodial Procedures Manual; knowledge of basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques; knowledge of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment; knowledge of safe working methods and procedures; displays and applies basic computer knowledge in daily tasks, i.e., E-mail, work orders, etc. Skill in oral and written communications. Ability to accepts assignments in a positive manner; ability to follows written and oral instructions and district policies and procedures; ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and other non-routine occurrences; ability to organize work activities, including setting priorities and determining schedules, and to follow a time schedule that results in adequate completion of work; ability to communicates in a positive, cooperative manner with school administrators, teachers, students and other users of the building; ability to cooperate and communicate in a positive manner with co-workers and to use positive methods to motivate the team; ability to perform moderately medium to heavy manual activities; ability to efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies and equipment; ability to demonstrate good work habits, including good attendance, being on time and being thorough in accomplishing work tasks; ability to presents self as a positive role model, displaying good work habits, including good attendance, being on time, being reliable, accessible and maintaining good personal appearance and hygiene; demonstrates functional ability in oral and written communications.
Salary: Salary is based upon the current 2024-25 Custodian Salary Schedule; Placement for all Northshore new custodian hires is Step 1. FLSA Non-Exempt.
Work Year: 8.0 hours per day. 260 days per year.
Benefits: Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package, for eligible positions. Generally, you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31).
