Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to 911 emergency calls, providing immediate advanced life support and critical care interventions.
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine the severity of injuries or illnesses.
- Manage airway patency through airway management techniques and administer oxygen therapy as needed.
- Deliver medication administration via injection or other routes following established protocols and medical terminology standards.
- Conduct venipuncture for blood draws or medication delivery, ensuring aseptic technique and patient safety.
- Operate emergency medical equipment (DME) such as defibrillators, ventilators, and monitors; ensure all devices are functioning correctly before use.
- Collaborate with hospital staff during patient handoff at Level I Trauma Centers or Level II trauma facilities, ensuring continuity of care.
- Perform heavy lifting and physically assist with patient movement and transportation in compliance with safety guidelines.
- Maintain detailed documentation of patient care activities, vital signs, treatment administered, and transport details for legal and medical records.
- Drive emergency vehicles safely under urgent conditions while adhering to traffic laws and safety protocols.
Experience
Candidates should possess a comprehensive background in emergency medicine with demonstrated experience in critical care environments. Prior hospital experience—particularly within emergency rooms or trauma centers—is highly valued. Critical care transport experience is preferred, along with familiarity in triage procedures at Level I Trauma Centers. Applicants must have EMT certification with additional paramedic training that includes airway management, medication administration, venipuncture, and vital signs monitoring. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, DME operation, and aseptic techniques is essential for success in this role. Candidates should demonstrate strong patient assessment skills and the ability to perform physical examinations confidently under pressure.
