Responsibilities include:
- Provides patient care and treatment of hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients.
- Administers and monitors anesthesia and IV fluids, including catheter placement
- Performs laboratory tests as directed
- Performs blood draws and injections
- Takes and processes radiographs
- Calculates dosages of medications including IV fluids
- Completes documentation of treatments, laboratory results, and patient observations in medical record and computer
- Schedules surgical and medical appointments
- Dispenses and administers medications and vaccines as directed
- Provides client communications and education including patient status, explanation of medications and preventative care recommendations
- Performs dental procedures
- Prepares patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery
- Restrains animals for veterinarian or other staff members as directed
- Maintains inventory in pharmacy, treatment areas and exam room
- Acts as veterinary assistant to doctors
Qualifications:Graduate of an AAS Veterinary Technology Program
Professional Licensure in Veterinary Technology in New York State
