POSITION OVERVIEW

The Outreach Coordinator for the SolarCHILL Project plays a key role in supporting workforce development, community engagement, and climate resilience education under the BUILD program. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering outreach and education for SolarCHILL participants, solar HVAC recipients, and the broader community. The Outreach Coordinator leads the planning and execution of community events that promote sustainable energy solutions, energy efficiency, and extreme heat resilience. The role requires strong communication, organizational, analytical, and data management skills, cultural competency, and the ability to collaborate effectively with Tribal partners, community stakeholders, contractors, and project staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Educate solar HVAC recipients on system benefits, use, and maintenance. 
  • Develop and implement surveys to assess system functionality and gather recipient feedback. 
  • Organize and participate in community demonstrations of solar HVAC units. 
  • Plan, coordinate, manage, lead, and host community events to promote the program and gather community input. 
  • Collect and analyze community input through surveys and engagement activities to inform program development. 
  • Independently and under the direction of the supervisor, plan, design, create, publish, and evaluate communications, including social media posts, newsletters, press releases, flyers, and other promotional materials.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data tracking for all outreach activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in all program events, required trainings, workshops, and team meetings.\
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

  • Represent NCO and its programs to the community in a positive light.
  • Dress appropriately according to assigned job duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in a similar role, preferably in a grant-funded program. 
  • Experience with community engagement, outreach, and communications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Outlook, and cloud-based project management and collaboration platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience designing professional marketing and communication materials using Canva or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and leading events from concept through completion.

Knowledge of:

  • Solar energy systems, HVAC systems, and other emerging clean energy technologies.
  • Extreme heat resilience strategies, energy efficiency programs, and related community resources.
  • Lake County Tribes and Tribal relations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred).

Ability to:

  • Interact with others in a culturally and emotionally sensitive manner.
  • Organize, prioritize, and complete tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with partners, contractors, and community organizations. 
  • Data collection, reporting, and program performance measurement to evaluate outcomes and improve outreach strategies.
  • Take direction and work with supervisor to ensure priorities are correctly aligned and accomplished.
  • Be effective working independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, creativity, tact, and dependability.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to attend and facilitate work events, meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Travel regularly throughout Lake County to promote the program, facilitate events, and transport event materials and equipment.

Necessary Special Skills & Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • For work-related driving, must have a valid California driver’s license, a verifiable good driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance that covers the employee as a driver OR reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally, including occasional evening and weekend events.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, and communicate clearly.
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, unassisted using ergonomic guidelines.
  • The employee may lift and/or move up to 40 pounds unassisted and may occasionally move and lift heavier materials with assistance, in all cases using ergonomic guidelines.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to travel during the day and/or night, sometimes long distance – possession of a valid California Driver’s License and access to an insured vehicle is required.
  • The employee will frequently travel to installation sites, community events, and partner meetings.
  • Interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors, and contributors is a frequent aspect of this job.
  • The employee will regularly use computers and computer printers, telephones, and other similar electronic office equipment.
