TEACHER
Under the supervision of the Center Director or Center Teacher, the Teacher is responsible for the implementation of classroom activities. The Teacher must be enthusiastic and energetic about working with young children, parents and other staff members.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a warm, accepting environment which encourages independence and self-esteem for each child.
- Provide engaging interactions with children.
- Implement daily curriculumactivitiesinthe classroom.May involve some lesson planning when the Center Director/Center Teacher is absent.
- Assistin developingprogram components which are sensitive toward each child’s rights, needs, and cultural/socioeconomic background.
- Assistin developinga safe, stimulating learning environmentfor all children and staff.
- Be familiar with and able to communicate information on program policies and procedures to parents, staff, and interested community members.
- Assistchildren inself-helpskills and daily routines including toileting, dressing, eating, napping, etc.
- Attend allappropriate staff,parentand community meetings.
- Uphold confidentiality of child and family information.
- Implement guidance techniques with children which areappropriate tothe situation and aid individual children whoexperience difficultyin the group.This includessupportthe implementation of individualized behavior support plans.
- Assistwith preparation,serviceandcleanupofmeal servicewhenappropriate.
- NotifyCenterDirectororCenterTeacherwhenachild becomes ill or hurt. Administer first aid when needed.
- Attend andparticipateinappropriatein-serviceand othertrainingsas assigned.
- Be familiar with and adhere toNCSpolicies and procedures including thePersonnel Policies.
- Take a lead role in the absence of the Center Director/Center Teacher.
- Perform other tasksrequiredfor efficient program operation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mustpossessthe minimum of an Associate Teacher Permiton the Child Development Matrix or be eligible to apply.
- Mustpossessoneyearteaching experience in an Early Childhood Educationsetting.
- Must have a working knowledge ofchild careprograms, child growth and development, and curriculum planning.
- Mustbe sensitive to the needs and characteristics of young children. Must have the ability to relate well to other staff members,parentsand community members. Must be able to self-direct and initiate parent and staff activities.
- Shouldhave the ability to work with professionals and non-professionals of varied backgrounds.
- Have a basic knowledge of child guidance techniques, communicationskillsand child development.
- Must be able to deal with crisis situations in the classroom in a calm, mature, and sensitive manner.
- Possess the ability to develop warm, open relationships with children, parents, and staff.
Salary : $22 - $25
