What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Operations Coordinator position at North Central Regional Transit District?
Under general direction, plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of staff performing transportation services within the North Central Regional Transit District; assists in delivering safe, efficient, and on-time transportation services to District customers; ensures appropriate staffing for transit operations and services; monitors road vehicle operations and vehicle inspections; oversees and ensures appropriate staff training; ensures staff adheres to District policy and procedures; provides complex staff assistance to management staff in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.
- Performs a variety of supervisory, administrative, reporting, tracking, and customer service tasks to fulfill daily transportation commitments and schedules; monitors services in process and evaluates operational performance to ensure quality and customer satisfaction; troubleshoots and manages emergency situations; responds to and resolves complex field issues and customer complaints.
- Ensures staff observe and adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and District policies and procedures; observes and adheres to policies and procedures specified in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Monitors and evaluates staff performance; provides instruction and feedback to improve performance and recommends additional training when needed; maintains records and documentation of performance appraisal reviews, commendations, training, incidents and accidents, informal coaching and guidance, written reprimands, and formal disciplinary actions.
- Conducts a variety of training, including behind-the-wheel training; trains employees on proper pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections, safety and security issues, defensive driving, customer relations, emergency response, and accident procedures and prevention techniques; conducts new hire orientations, training, and evaluation; coordinates annual refresher training programs.
- Prepares and submits bi-weekly payroll records for staff.
- Serves as Dispatcher/Customer Service Representative or Transit Operator in cases of emergency or due to unforeseen staffing shortages.
- Verifies drivers are available and assigned to vehicles through computerized scheduling system; monitors performance in real-time via Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL), two-way radio system, or other system.
- Conducts field training and mentors new Transit Operators; conducts field performance exams and reviews employee performance on processes, procedures, routes, and operating policies and practices.
- Recommends changes to scheduling, staffing, or other operational issues; reports discrepancies and/or unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel; recommends and implements corrective actions.
- Coordinates assigned services and operations with other divisions and outside agencies.
- Answers questions and provides information to the public; investigates and responds to complaints and inquiries from citizens, other departments, and agencies; conducts customer/site inspections; recommends corrective actions to resolve issues.
- Maintains files, databases, and records of training; maintains employee personnel files, including incidents and accidents, informal coaching and guidance, written reprimands, formal disciplinary actions, and related documents.
- Prepares a variety of written reports, memoranda, and correspondence.
- Represents the District in meetings with members of other public and private organizations, community groups, contractors, developers, and the public.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in passenger bus transportation, including one (1) year in a lead role.
