Title: Parent MentorLocations: Primarily Wyandot County, Richland County, Crawford County, Seneca CountyReports To:Direct SupervisorScheduled Days: As per employment contract /Part Time / Approx. 2.5 days a week during the school yearStart Date:Start of the 2026-2027 School YearFLSA Status:Non-ExemptPosition OverviewNCOESC is seeking a dedicated Parent Mentor to join our team. Under general direction, the Parent Mentor works collaboratively with families of students with disabilities and school personnel to support student success. Partners with families to navigate educational systems, services, and community resources. Promotes effective communication and collaboration among families, school staff, and community agencies to build strong partnerships that support children and youth with disabilities.Key Requirements Parent Mentor PositionCore ResponsibilitiesServe as a resource to families, school staff, and community partners on special education topicsSupport families in navigating special education systems, services, and processes (ETR/IEP, eligibility, timelines, etc.)Connect families to community resources, support groups, and agenciesPromote collaboration between families, schools, and community organizationsKnowledge & SkillsStrong understanding of special education laws, processes, and compliance requirements (IDEA, Ohio Administrative Codes)Knowledge of available community resources and support services for individuals with disabilitiesAbility to explain complex information clearly to families and staffStrong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismProgram Implementation & SupportPlan and facilitate trainings, workshops, and informational sessions for families and staffAssist with transition planning for students ages 322Provide technical assistance to families, district personnel, and community membersAttend meetings (e.g., IEP/ETR) as requested to support familiesCollaboration & OutreachWork collaboratively with district representatives to implement program servicesPromote Parent Mentor services within districts and the communityBuild partnerships that support students with disabilities and their familiesData & ReportingCollect and submit required program data and evaluation reportsMaintain accurate documentation and meet reporting deadlinesUtilize databases and systems for tracking services and outcomesProfessional ExpectationsParticipate in required professional development and training (CETE, OCALICON, etc.)Maintain current knowledge of regulations, policies, and best practicesDemonstrate regular and reliable attendanceUphold ESC policies, procedures, and professional standardsAdditional ExpectationsAbility to manage multiple responsibilities across districtsStrong organizational and time-management skillsCommitment to supporting students with disabilities and their familiesMinimum QualificationsHigh school diplomaParent of child(ren) with special needsValid driver's licenseExcellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; including strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competenceProficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.).
