Assistant High School Football Coach
Job Description
Position Summary
The Assistant High School Football Coach supports the Head Football Coach in all aspects of leading and developing a successful football program. This position contributes to the athletic, academic, social, and personal growth of student-athletes, while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and program values.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Coaching & Instruction

Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting practices, drills, and workouts.

Teach fundamental skills, techniques, and strategies appropriate to high school athletes.

Support implementation of offensive, defensive, and special teams systems.

Model and promote discipline, effort, teamwork, and respect.
Athlete Development & Safety
-
Help monitor student-athlete academic progress, eligibility, and conduct.

Maintain a safe and positive environment at all times.

Follow emergency procedures and adhere to district athletic policies.
-
Encourage healthy conditioning, injury prevention, and recovery practices.
Program Support

Assist in equipment inventory, care, and distribution.

Participate in program meetings, film review, scouting, and game preparation.

Attend and support all games, scrimmages, camps, and team activities as assigned.

Represent the football program at events, meetings, and community functions when requested.
Supervision & Leadership

Maintain appropriate supervision of athletes during practices, games, and travel.

Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions.

Build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, and school personnel.

Support the Head Coach with communication to athletes, families, athletic director, and staff.
Required Qualifications

Knowledge of football fundamentals, rules, and game strategy.

Ability to coach, mentor, and positively influence adolescents.

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with coaches and school staff.

Commitment to student-athlete academic achievement and sportsmanship.

Ability to meet district requirements for coaching authorization, background check, and training certifications.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior football coaching or playing experience.

Experience in weight training, injury prevention, and athletic conditioning.

Understanding of film analysis and data-based athletic improvement.
