Role Description The Resident Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Ladysmith, WI, responsible for supporting the well-being, safety, and daily life of boarding students. This role includes supervising the dorm, enforcing school policies, conducting regular room checks, and responding calmly to emergencies or urgent student needs.
The Resident Assistant will build positive, respectful relationships with students, provide guidance on personal and academic routines, and model appropriate behavior and community values. Daily tasks include organizing and leading evening and weekend activities, overseeing study hall and quiet hours, managing sign-in/out procedures, and coordinating transportation or logistics as assigned.
The position also involves collaborating closely with faculty, health office staff, and administration, documenting relevant incidents, communicating with guardians as directed, and contributing to a supportive, inclusive, and culturally diverse residential community.
Duty hours are from 4:00 - 11:00PM on 2 evenings a week and alternating weekend hours from Friday at 4:00PM to Monday at 8:30AM. This is a live-in position which includes free room and board (meals, laundry, and WIFI) from late August to late May with 3 weeks of winter break and a week of spring break.

- Strong student support and mentorship skills, including the ability to build trust, set boundaries, and guide adolescents in a boarding environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for interacting effectively with students, colleagues, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Organizational and time-management skills to balance supervision, activities, administrative tasks, and on-call responsibilities.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, including de-escalation, mediation, and sound judgment in challenging situations.
- Basic safety, supervision, and crisis-response skills, with the ability to follow protocols and remain calm under pressure.
- Comfortable organizing, leading, and supporting student activities, such as outdoor recreation, clubs, arts, and community-building events.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as typically required in residential life roles.
- Postsecondary coursework - Associates or Bachelors degree required
- Prior experience in residential life, youth programs, camps, or student services is strongly beneficial.
