The Office of Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) is a comprehensive support program that strives to meet the academic, personal and professional development needs of all student-athletes, promoting excellence and effectiveness in undergraduate and graduate education as well as leadership and civic engagement. The NC State Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes Internship Program has existed since 2005 and was recognized as the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) Model Practices Award winner in 2013. Position Purpose This full-time internship is intended to provide hands-on experience and prepare individuals to perform at a high level in full-time positions in academic support for student-athletes following the internship. Please note: Campus Parking pass cost $33-$40/month Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Meet with a caseload of under-prepared students to develop academic skills, time management skills, learning techniques, and content acquisition. Monitor academic progress and maintain communication with academic coordinators and supervisors. Collaborate with a team of learning specialists to support academically under-prepared student-athletes in one-on-one and group sessions. Develop and deliver professional development workshops for support staff, including academic mentors, writing assistants, and tutors Assist with screening, assessment, and the development of academic support plans in collaboration with ASPSA's associate director and academic coordinators Facilitate at least one small group session to support students in a historically challenging course Co-lead a group of academically underprepared student-athletes participating in SummerStart in the development of academic skills necessary to transition to the college classroom Support students with educationally impacting disabilities in registering and accessing academic accommodations Co-teach University Studies Courses (USC), which are designed to support first-year student-athletes in their transition from high school through the first year of college studies. Other duties as assigned by the associate director/learning specialist

Minimum Experience/Education	Bachelor's degree and master's degree from an accredited college or university, or must have completed all requirements for master's degree with the exception of internship completion Experience supervising young adults in an educational setting.
Department Required Skills	Must be able to problem-solve, make quick ethical and policy-based decisions, and meet deadlines for multiple tasks and supervisors. Must have high ethical standards and impeccable personal and professional integrity. Must have excellent written, verbal, analytical, and listening skills. Must be able to effectively communicate task and internship-related needs to primary and secondary supervisors and other staff members. Must be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Must have computer software application skills to develop written reports. Must be attentive to detail and accurate in record keeping. Must be able to teach academic success strategies. Must have conflict management and interpersonal skills that maximize success in communicating with students who have a wide range of academic backgrounds. Must be able to work a flexible and non-traditional schedule, including all Sundays, and certain evenings during the week
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education	Completed a master's degree in the fields of education, higher education administration or leadership, college student personnel, psychology, sociology, and/or sport management At least one year of work experience in an academic support for athletics setting A sincere interest in athletic academic counseling as a profession Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, particularly in the areas of initial and continuing eligibility Knowledge of ADA, IEP/504 plans, and working with students with educationally impacting disabilities Knowledge of educational theory, educational/cognitive psychology, or science-backed learning theory
