Position Summary

The Performance Outcomes Coordinator plays a key role in advancing clinical quality and patient safety at North Carolina Specialty Hospital. This position is responsible for coordinating hospital-wide performance improvement initiatives, facilitating data-driven decision-making, and supporting compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. The coordinator collaborates with clinical departments, administrative leaders, and frontline staff to ensure high standards of patient care, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across the hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead hospital-based performance improvement (PI) projects aligned with strategic goals and patient care priorities.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to identify improvement opportunities in patient safety, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and efficiency.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret clinical and operational performance data, and present findings to stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and other investigative and improvement processes.
  • Assist departments in the development and execution of action plans to address quality concerns and regulatory requirements.
  • Support hospital compliance with regulatory and accreditation bodies, including The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and state health departments.
  • Participate in hospital quality and safety committees, contributing data, reports, and expert guidance on improvement methodology.
  • Educate hospital staff on performance improvement tools and methodologies such as Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA), Lean, and Six Sigma.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and other tools to monitor key quality and safety indicators.
  • Stay current with national trends in healthcare quality, patient safety, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related healthcare field required.
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hospital-based quality improvement, clinical operations, or patient safety preferred.
  • Experience with regulatory readiness, accreditation surveys, and quality data reporting (e.g., NHSN, Core Measures, HCAHPS).

Certifications

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Lean Six Sigma Certification, or equivalent preferred.
  • RN license preferred if applicable to candidate's background.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of hospital operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory/accreditation standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with quality data systems (e.g., Press Ganey or NRC).
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in using data to drive performance improvement.

Work Environment

  • Based in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Requires walking throughout hospital units and interaction with a multidisciplinary team.
