What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Analyst position at North Carolina Office of the State Auditor?

The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Data Analyst to serve on our Data Analytics Team. In this role, you would play a key role in supporting audit activities of the office by collecting, processing, and analyzing data from various state agencies.


OSA is the state’s Fiscal Watchdog. We hold state government and entities that receive public money accountable, working on behalf of North Carolinians to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.


As part of our team, you will get to:

• Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets from various state government agencies

• Identify trends, anomalies, and patterns in financial and operational data

• Develop data models, dashboards, and visualizations to support audit findings and reports

• Collaborate with audit teams to provide data-driven insights

• Assist in the automation of data analysis and reporting processes

• Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with state and federal regulations

• Present findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders

• Contribute to the development of predictive models and risk assessments to detect fraud, waste, and inefficiencies in government programs


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages for data analysis
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar programs
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex data insights clearly


Minimum Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting and 12 semester hours in information technology or computer & information security from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience in auditing/accounting or information technology/computer security


OR


A bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in information technology or computer & information security and 12 semester hours in accounting/business from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience in auditing/accounting or information technology/computer security


OR


An equivalent combination of education and experience

Salary : $77,000 - $81,000
