What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cybersecurity Analyst position at North Carolina Office of the State Auditor?
The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst to serve on our Information Technology Team. In this position you will be responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of OSA systems and data.
OSA is the state’s Fiscal Watchdog. We hold state government and entities that receive public money accountable, working on behalf of North Carolinians to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.
As part of our team, you will get to:
• Lead internal risk assessments and vulnerability management efforts
• Coordinate and respond to cybersecurity incidents, including forensic analysis and root cause investigations
• Support secure architecture design and DevSecOps practices in cloud environments (Azure and Databricks)
• Assist in drafting, implementing, and maintaining cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards
• Provide training and awareness programs to staff on cybersecurity best practices
• Contribute to long-term strategic planning
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies
- Ability to create and implement custom security solutions, providing expert consultation on technical issues and client requests
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and incident response processes
- Experience conducting risk assessments, vulnerability scans (e.g., Tenable, Qualys), and using SIEM platforms and endpoint protection technologies
- Preferred certifications include, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), CompTIA Security , CompTIA PenTest , and Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
Minimum Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related IT field or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area
OR
An associate degree in computer science or a related IT field or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary : $85,000 - $110,000
