Job Overview

This position is responsible for supporting, as part of a team, all processes associated with the issuance of licenses and the processing of renewal applications. This position requires accuracy and a high degree of attention to detail. Requires strong customer service skills and the ability to manage a high volume of daily telephone inquiries efficiently and professionally. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively by phone and through written correspondence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist applicants, examinees and licensed general contractors with general licensing requirements, processes and procedures.

· Perform various computer and word processing tasks, including correspondence and data entry.

· Process applications for examinations, licensure, and license renewals.

· Review applications for completeness and ensure compliance with statutory requirements. Communicate effectively—both orally and in writing—with applicants, examinees, contractors, citizens, and state and local government officials regarding application status, requirements, and related inquiries.

· Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls and assist walk-in visitors as needed on all matters related to licensure and renewal.

· Evaluate and address inquiries or concerns, clearly interpret applicable laws, regulations, and Board policies, and provide guidance on the completion of licensing and renewal applications and related forms.

· Prepare and generate reports on various aspects of licensure, as requested by the Director of Licensing and Education.

· Perform related duties as requested by the Director of Licensing and Education or the Executive Director.

· Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, active licensing, problem solving, professionalism, and patience/empathy.

· Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.

· Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high standard of professional etiquette.

· Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and consistently meet deadlines.

· Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

· Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

· Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), SharePoint and Adobe

· Proficiency in using videoconferencing platforms for virtual meetings and communication.

· Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn, interpret, and apply the North Carolina General Statutes and the North Carolina Administrative Code as they relate to general contracting.

· Must be able to perform basic functions of sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, talking, listening and repetitive motions such as typing, notetaking, reading

· Must be able to perform light manual labor by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or moving item(s) of 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently and negligible weights constantly throughout the course of a workday.

· Must possess visual acuity to prepare and analyze data including figures, ability to effectively operate a computer, and to read materials extensively.

· High School diploma or equivalent is required. Post-secondary coursework or a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.

· Prior work experience in customer service, particularly in a high-volume telephone environment, is preferred.
