Primary Purpose
The Occupational Extension–Prison Instructor will teach occupational skills at correctional facilities, including the DART Center, Neuse Correctional Institution, and/or Wayne County Detention Center in Wayne County, to meet the needs of today’s job market in one of the following areas:
Horticulture/Greenhouse Production
Food Service
Entrepreneurship
Environmental Services
Networking Security
Direct Care Worker
Position Duties
Design and implement effective learning strategies for students; develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
Maintain accurate class attendance records; compile student registration and fee waiver information; and submit reports and administrative paperwork in a timely manner.
Evaluate student performance.
Organize and maintain the classroom and instructional areas, including physical facilities, equipment, inventory, and materials, in a clean and orderly condition.
Perform other duties that support the mission and goals of the College, as assigned by the supervisor.
Position Requirements
Education Requirement: High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma, and a minimum of two years of related work experience in the field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience teaching adults.
Experience delivering course content in a correctional facility setting.
Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications, and familiarity with accessing the internet for data entry into a browser-based Management Information System.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and files, including database entry.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proven leadership ability, supervisory experience, and commitment to teamwork.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
Preferred: Experience working with justice-involved populations; National Career Readiness Certification.
