Position is a Dental Assistant located at the NC Correctional Institution for Women HCF in Raleigh, NC. This facility houses approximately 1700 minimum, medium or close custody female offenders. The Dental Assistant will render technical assistance to Dentists in the care and treatment of offender patients. Position provides primary clinical support for patient care by performing dental assisting duties in a variety of clinical settings. Duties performed include maintaining inventories of supplies and equipment, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, preparing and arranging instrument trays for clinical use, explaining procedures and providing support to patients, passing instruments to the dentist during procedures, preparing impression and filling materials, operating oral evacuation equipment, retractors and water/air sprays, monitoring the patient’s behavior and vital signs as requested by the dentist, completing patient records and charts, billings and reappointments, clearing and cleaning the operatory and instruments, taking routine x-rays and photographs and instructing patients, families and/or health care staff in basic oral hygiene. Positions in this class may have some responsibility for orienting dental and dental assistant students in the utilization of dental assistants in office management, patient relations and routine chair-side procedures. May require travel to other DAC facilities, if necessary, to support Dental Health Services.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is MH04. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
About the NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) is the primary North Carolina Department of Adult Correction prison facility housing female inmates on a campus in Raleigh, North Carolina and serves as a support facility for the six other women's prisons throughout the state. The facility's inmate population, which is the largest in the state, consists of offenders from all custody levels and control statuses including death row, maximum security, close custody, medium security, minimum security and safekeepers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Completion of a dental assistant program from an appropriately accredited institution and one (1) year of on-the-job training as a dental assistant and REQUIRED x-ray training when needed OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
