ACTIVITIES CENTER

PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT


GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under occasional supervision, assists in planning and supervising operations, activities and events of the Riverview Park Activities Center. Performs related work as assigned. Postion works different shifts that includes evening and weekend hours. Reports to the Superintendent of Facilities & Programs.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists in planning and supervising operations, activities and events of the Riverview Park Activities Center and assigned special events while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety.

Supervises assigned seasonal staff and class instructors; supervisory duties include scheduling; instructing; assigning and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; acting on employee, customer and instructor problems. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.

Opens and closes facility at established times of day.

Assists in maintaining complete activities calendar for Activities Center.

Meets and greets members, guests and clients.

Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints regarding Activities Center activities, policies and personnel.

Supervises member activity; checks member identification to allow building access; enforces rules and regulations; maintains membership records; prepares and distributes membership renewal notices; prepares monthly membership report.

Collects and posts membership fees, rental fees, registration fees and other monies.

Supervises activities and events while Activities Center is in use.

Demonstrates the proper and safe use of equipment for staff and members.

Surveys members to receive feedback on facilities and programs.

Assists in processing facility rentals; provides assistance to rental clients.

Prepares rooms, gyms and various facilities for events and programs.

Inspects facilities and grounds for proper and safe condition; coordinates and/or assists with maintenance and repair work as necessary.

Attends meetings, training, workshops, conferences, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Performs general administrative / office work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, compiling data for reports, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, maintaining logs and lists, etc.

Operates a vehicle; operates office equipment such as a computer, copier, telephone, calculator, cash register, etc.; operates kitchen appliances, audio-visual equipment, custodial equipment, fitness equipment, sports equipment.

Uses office, computer, maintenance and cleaning supplies, fitness / sports paraphernalia.


ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains Activities Center digital bulletin board.

Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires an Associate’s degree in sports / recreation administration supplemented by one to two years of related experience, on or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Requires light-to-medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor and giving information and instructions to subordinates.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents and reports. Requires the ability to prepare various reports and documents with the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Has the ability to speak to the general public with poise, voice control and confidence.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in supervising staff and volunteers; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make routine independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow and give verbal and written instructions; to teach employees and volunteers.

Numeric Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, determine percentages and decimals; and determine time.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using automated office equipment, fitness equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a minimal degree, or to tension as a regular, consistent part of the job.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).


PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Knowledge of Job: Has knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Center Program Coordinator. Has knowledge of the organization of the Department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of the City and other governmental agencies. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge in the areas of recreation programming and event planning, sports programming, customer service, and facilities/grounds maintenance. Has excellent organizational, interpersonal, organizational skills. Is able to effectively market department programs and services to the public. Has the ability to help plan and develop daily, short- and long-term goals related to City purposes. Has the ability to plan and coordinate the most effective use of personnel, facilities and resources to achieve department goals. Is able to help ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations and control the activities of the department through effective supervision. Knows how to apply supervisory concepts and principles; has knowledge of administrative principles involved in supervising various programs and related activities. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations. Is able to perform employee evaluations and to make recommendations based on results. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Is able to read and interpret various materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Recognizes and understands the relationship between operating policies and practices and morale and performance. Strives to ensure that established policies enhance same.
