Compliance Coordiantor

The Compliance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing adherence to North American Mental Health Services (NAMHS) policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position develops, implements, and monitors compliance programs, identifies risks, and advises Executive Leadership on mitigation strategies. The Compliance Coordinator acts as liaison between departments and external agencies, manages audits and inspections, and provides training to ensure organizational accountability and compliance with all applicable requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Examines, develops, and implements compliance/company policies, procedures, and best practices in partnership with Leadership and the operations team
• Stays current on federal and state laws and regulations affecting NAMHS operations, advising leadership of required changes.
• Coordinates with legal counsel and operating departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to new or revised service offerings.
• Oversee revision, dissemination, and training on compliance standards and updated procedures.
• Coordinates and supervises compliance-related programs, including training, testing, reporting, disaster recovery, contingency planning, and records management.
• Provides guidance in conjunction with Director of Operations to Clinic Managers/Department Leaders when responding to patient grievances and/or incident reports.
• Arranges and conducts compliance audits; communicates audit results and necessary actions to Executive Leadership.
• Help prepare compliance documentation and detailed reports for leadership, regulators, and auditors.
• Advises Executive Leadership on compliance risks, regulatory requirements, and potential impacts to operations.
• Consults with management to resolve compliance concerns and implement corrective actions.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, ethical, and professional guidelines in all client interactions and documentation.
• Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures related to client care, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  
  

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly supervises employees within the compliance department, excluding Compliance Officer/Director.
• Directly supervises employees across related functions ie. Medical Records.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with NAMHS policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  
  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Business, Healthcare Administration, Legal Studies, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  
  

Experience

• Minimum 1–2 years of compliance, risk management, or regulatory experience (healthcare compliance preferred).
• Strong interest in understanding business models and operational processes.
• Knowledge of human resources best practices and related legal requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance requirements under HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, CMIA, CMS standards, Title 22, OSHA/Cal-OSHA, Emergency Preparedness, FWA (Fraud, Waste and Abuse), Risk management policy review and implementation
• Ability to handle special projects, regulatory reviews, and compliance investigations.
• Experience working with underserved populations, including Medi-Cal recipients, at-risk individuals, and those with severe mental illness is preferred.
  
  

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation.
• Strong knowledge of California mental health laws, Medi-Cal billing requirements, and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Setting: This position may require work in an outpatient clinic, telehealth environment, or a hybrid model, depending on organizational needs.
• Work is primarily performed in a remote work environment with occasional site visits to Clinics/Administration as required for training and auditing purposes.
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is usually subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
• Will require travel to other locations as needed.

• A medium level of physical dexterity, including the ability to climb stairs and ladders, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or sit for an extended period is required.
• A sufficient level of dexterity of the hands, to use office equipment including, but not limited to computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, printer/copier, cutter, grommet machine, general office equipment and multi-line telephone is required.
