A Medical Records Clerk performs a range of clerical duties related to the support of operations of the unit including updating and organizing information on the unit; coordinating work within the unit and with other units and departments; reporting relevant information to the supervisor; and responding to inquiries and requests from patients, visitors and caregivers.
Essential Functions
- Performs all clerical/computer functions including filing and scanning medical records and loose documents.
- Purge and retire medical records appropriately.
- Stocks unit with office and medical supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory levels.
- Answers the telephone in a professional manner and assists customers as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality and protects privacy of healthcare information, security of password, and access codes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred.
- Associate's degree Preferred
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
