JOB SUMMARY Under supervision of the Director of Business Services, performs complex and responsible secretarial and clerical functions related to the payroll/personnel operations of the district. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Modern office methods and equipment including data processing, management, storage, and retrieval systems; ability to communicate effectively with District staff; letter and report writing, and proofreading. Ability to: Effectively perform complex secretarial and clerical activities, which require knowledge of legal mandates, policies, regulations, and operational procedures; prepare clear and comprehensive reports; learn, interpret, and apply complex policies, administrative regulations, and operational procedures; type at a net corrected speed of 45 words per minute; communicate effectively in oral and written form; make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Experience: Three years of responsible secretarial experience; payroll/personnel experience desired. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in business office management, organization, or related technical skill areas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION Prepare, code, audit and transmit classified payrolls to the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office. Maintain payroll records such as: uniform reimbursements; voluntary deductions; PERS; absence notification forms and the Absence Tracking program; employment agreements; and distributes payroll checks. Code and enter all personnel data into district computer system. Maintain personnel absence tracking program. Attend County Office meetings and workshops. Utilize district word processing system.
