Norridge Garden LLC is a resident-centered senior care community committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care. We're seeking an experienced, creative Activity Director to lead our Life Enrichment program and promote meaningful engagement, purpose, and joy for our residents.
Position Summary
The Activity Director plans, coordinates, and oversees a person-centered activity program that meets the physical, cognitive, social, spiritual, and emotional needs of residents, including those in skilled nursing, long-term care, and memory care settings. This role supervises activity staff and volunteers, manages the department budget and calendar, and ensures regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate a monthly activities calendar aligned with resident preferences and abilities.
Conduct resident interest assessments and maintain individualized care plans; document participation and outcomes.
Coordinate group and 1:1 activities, community outings, special events, and intergenerational and volunteer programs.
Collaborate with Nursing, Social Services, Rehab, and Dietary to support holistic, person-centered care.
Lead activities that support physical fitness, cognitive stimulation, creative arts, music, sensory engagement, and spiritual well-being.
Ensure safe, inclusive programming for residents with varying cognitive/functional levels, including dementia.
Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise activity aides and volunteers; complete performance evaluations.
Maintain department supplies, equipment, and budget; source community partners and entertainers.
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g., CMS, IDPH), standards of practice, and facility policies.
Participate in care conferences; complete timely documentation (e.g., assessments, progress notes).
Plan and execute holiday/seasonal events, family engagement initiatives, and resident council activities.
Maintain infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness standards during all programs.
Assist with transportation coordination for outings; may drive/escort residents as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
1 year of experience in activities/recreation in long-term care, skilled nursing, assisted living, or similar setting.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to lead groups and engage individuals with dementia.
Basic computer proficiency (EHR documentation, email, MS Office/Google Suite).
Preferred/State-Specific (customize based on your state requirements):
Activity Director certification (ADC) or completion of a state-approved activity professional course.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or related degree in Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Social Work, or related field.
Familiarity with MDS Section F, care planning, and survey readiness.
Physical/Work Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25–35 lbs, and assist with resident mobility as needed.
Ability to push wheelchairs and transport activity supplies/equipment.
Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays for special events.
Background/Health Requirements
Successful background check and reference verification.
TB test/health screening; up-to-date immunizations per policy.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record if transporting residents.
