Normandy Schools Collaborative is seeking a Director of Athletics.   The Director of Athletics is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and supervision of a competitive athletics program. Works to provide effective strategies, information, resources, training and support to the High School Athletic Director, coaches, and student athletics for a quality and successful educational and athletic experience. Provides visionary leadership, strategic planning, and policy development for the athletics program K-12 grades. The Director will maintain an athletics program that is committed to the District’s mission and strategic priorities. Administers the overall district athletic budget. Ensures compliance with all state association and conference policies, rules, and regulations. Will participant in District and community fundraising events.

 

Job Summary:

 

To provide information, resources, training, and support for effective strategies and technologies for the quality education of student-athletes and the Districts athletic staff while overseeing all aspects of the athletic programs and facilities that are sponsored by the Normandy Schools Collaborative.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the schools to develop a District-wide athletic program to ensure uniformity and coordination and provide athletic opportunities to all students.
  • Provide leadership that will enable schools to develop athletic programs. Establish annual athletic program goals and objectives.
  • Implement an annual evaluation of the athletic program. Hire, train, and evaluate staff and coaches.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of athletic equipment.
  • Serve as a consultant within the District on all athletic construction projects. Monitor the District athletic program for compliance with gender equity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of athletic administration as it relates to Grades K-12.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of athletic facilities with schools. Coordinate the purchase of athletic equipment.
  • Serve as the District liaison for athletics to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA), and the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA). Coordinate the provisions of athletic training with local community agencies and organizations and fosters good community relationships by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic programs.
  • Coordinate the provisions for physical examinations for all athletes with local community agencies and organizations.
  • Assist the schools to promote publicity for all interscholastic sports, such as sports brochures and other publications, press releases, radio releases etc.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with central office and school staff to ensure information exchange, coordination, and support for the decision-making process and the collection of feedback concerning services.
  • Attend all local, district, regional, state, and national meetings that are necessary to the functioning of the athletic program.
  • Promote professional growth and enrichment by encouraging athletic directors and coaches to be members of professional athletic organizations and to participate in approved clinics, conferences, and required compliance seminars while assisting coaches in keeping abreast of current practices, programs, legal issues, and care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  • Assist in developing and managing District athletic budget.
  • Keep well-informed about current trends and best practices in content, service, or project areas.
  • Seek assistance and support for the financing of the athletic program. Support and participate in the implementation of the District's Strategic Plan. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate commitment to academic and athletic excellence. Excellent skills in planning, organization, and leadership.
  • Effective written and oral communication and relational skills and ability interact effectively with all stakeholders of the school community including local government.
  • Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions concerning planning, utilization of funds, delivering services, and evaluation of services provided. Various software platforms to develop public information announcements, promotions, social media posts and website maintenance.
  • Skilled in budgeting and allocating funds.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, printer, calculator, and copier. Ability to use computer hardware and software to accomplish instructional and administrative functions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with professional staff, parents, and students.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and advanced degree required.
  • Administrative Certification is required
  • Significant experience in the administration of athletics or comparable managerial experience is preferred.

Physical Demands:

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper.

Some local travel to complete office errands and may be necessary to various District buildings and/or sites.

 

Work Environment:

 

The majority of working hours will be spent in an office setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually at a moderate level with frequent interruptions.  Light physical activity such as walking, and standing is required on a daily basis Occasionally, the employee may lift to 25 pounds to objects and equipment.
