Job Title: Literacy Coach

Credentials: Current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate – Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in early childhood or elementary education.

Training or Experience required: Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred.

Reports to: Director of Early Childhood

Contract: 15 Hours per week

FLSA Classification: Exempt.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist teachers in improving their instructional practices and teaching methodology with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments.
  • Assist teachers in instructional and curricular initiatives including data analysis, professional development, small group instruction, and the MTSS framework.
  • Keep abreast of research in the areas of student learning and instruction.
  • Encourage and support teachers' reflection of their classroom practices.
  • Become skillful in providing effective feedback to meet the needs of individual teachers.
  • Model/Co-teach lessons or parts of lessons based on research-based best practices.
  • Provide district and site training as appropriate.
  • Attend site district, and state training related to coaching, instruction, curriculum, and assessment.
  • Facilitate the utilization of a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom.
  • Provide collaborative one-on-one instructional coaching.
  • Facilitate data driven decision making utilizing both formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide suggestions and monitoring of intervention strategies and materials for struggling students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Knowledge

  • English Language – Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the definition and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Mathematics – Knowledge of arithmetic, and basic computations regarding addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Customer and Personal Services – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes when a customer needs assessment and meeting the quality standards for services and the evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skills

  • Communication Skills: A teacher must possess and demonstrate effective communication skills as he/she exchanges information, gives and receives instructions, responds to inquiries, completes forms, and prepares correspondence. Teachers must have the ability to write legibly. A teacher must also demonstrate an excellent knowledge of grammatical structure, spelling and vocabulary. Teachers must communicate in a clear and grammatically correct manner at all times.
  • Performance Measures: A teacher performs skilled, professional leveled tasks under limited supervision to provide the appropriate teaching strategies and environment for student learning. This includes but is not limited to; developing lesson plans, teaching, evaluating student progress, assigning grades, accomplishing curriculum objectives, meeting with parents and staff to enhance the learning process and growth of the students, utilizing discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment to meet the challenges of the job. Teachers must establish guidelines/syllabus with the appropriate instructional objectives, maintain classroom discipline, encourage learning with effective teaching techniques, and promote acquisition of skills and knowledge to apply principles, theories, and other learning objectives. Teachers must also monitor student progress (grading, feedback, behavior.. etc..), provide an environment that encourages independent thinking and demonstrate care and assistance for students with special concerns or needs.
  • Contact with Others: A teacher has regular contact with patrons, students, and staff. Teachers must; interpret and translate facts and information; explain situations and issues; identify alternative courses of action; and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
