Part-time Custodian

Normal Township operates a 40,000 square foot Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) for adults age 55 and over. With more than 90 different programs on offer each month, the center is an exciting atmosphere where people can improve their physical and social well-being while meeting new people and trying new hobbies.

Custodians report directly to the Lead Custodian or manager on duty and are responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the facility as outlined in daily work assignments. It is important for a custodian to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises. The ideal candidate will have great physical endurance to cover a large space and a keen eye for detail. Custodians must follow OSHA guidelines at all times, including in the use of work tools and equipment, proper use of body mechanics, and appropriate use of chemicals. Custodians clean and setup classrooms for programs and events.

This position is part-time ~16 hours per week. Monday through Thursday 11 AM - 3PM or Monday through Thursday 3PM - 7PM. Some Fridays and Saturdays from 8 AM - 1PM may be necessary to cover time off requests.

Qualifications

• A passion for working with seniors age 55
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
• Minimum of 1 year housekeeping, custodial or janitorial experience.
• Ability to understand and follow work schedules while using time efficiently to accomplish department goals.
• Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for four-hour periods of time without difficulty and lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
• AED and CPR Certified or willing to obtain training through employer.
• Proficiency with e-mail.
• Background check required.

Specific Duties

• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
• Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap)
• Wipe mirrors and windows
• Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
• Deliver excellent customer service and assist members who have questions.
• Carry out work assignments as outlined on a daily cleaning schedule.
• Communicate need for supplies, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to management to remedy.
• Set up classrooms with appropriate tables, chairs, and stage as needed.
• Clean surfaces using safety standards and proper supplies and technique.
• Assist with outdoor cleanup of the exterior of the building and grounds as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
