Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters in related field.MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification required.Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills preferred.Authority: Reports to the Building Principal Compensation: FLSA ExemptWork Year: 183 Day School YearProfessional Responsibilities: Create and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans that teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health, movement patterns, games, and individual/team sports.Provide instruction to students on basic nutrition (e.g., healthy eating habits and food groups) and personal safety (e.g., proper use of equipment, rules for safe play, and basic first aid) as part of a comprehensive wellness curriculum.Monitor, assess, and evaluate student progress towards the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health and Physical Education standards and provide timely, constructive feedback. Adapt curriculum to meet the needs of the students with varying abilities including the special needs of students, including those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans.Establish and maintain standards of student behavior necessary to provide for an orderly and productive learning environment including direct instruction in good sportsmanship.Develop positive and open communications and partnerships with parents/guardians to benefit their students. Confer with teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve any behavioral and academic issues.Cooperate with other staff members to integrate health, wellness, and movement concepts into the overall school experience.Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and trends in health and physical education.Plan, organize, and coordinate school-wide events such as Field Day, fun runs, or other wellness initiatives.Uphold all Norfolk School Committee Policies.Perform other related duties as assigned.Evaluation: Evaluation to be performed annually in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the NTA and Norfolk School Committee and pertinent regulations and statutes.Physical Working Conditions: Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building.Frequently required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch.Must be able to assist students who have physical disabilities.The majority of the workday is spent indoors, however also must be able to spend time outdoors for outdoor activities, recess, fire drills and special activities.Salary Range: Bachelors/Step 2 $57,919 - Doctorate/Step 15 $117,048
