Norfolk Elementary Schools Norfolk, Massachusetts TitleLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Part Time Position The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) serves a dual-function role, providing both one-to-one (1:1) nursing care to a specific medically involved student and acting as substitute coverage to support the needs of the District's two primary School Nurses. This position requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to supporting the health and well-being of all students across the district. Minimum Qualifications Current and active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Massachusetts. Degree from an accredited school of practical nursing. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Experience in pediatric or school nursing is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Qualifications: Prior nursing experience required Advanced computer knowledge and skills Flexibility & Punctuality Required Collaborate with building nurses to support medical needs and administration of medication as prescribed by a physician. Reports toBuilding Principal(s) Essential Duties: Dedicated 1:1 Student Care and Coverage (Primary Function) Provide direct, specialized nursing care to an assigned student requiring continuous observation, intervention, and documentation per the student's Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP). Monitor the student's medical status throughout the school day, during transitions, and during transport, intervening immediately in the event of a medical emergency. Complete accurate and timely documentation of all care, observations, and treatments in the student’s health record. 2. District and Building Support Provide substitute nursing coverage, as needed, to ensure continuity of care when either of the two full-time School Nurses is absent or away from their assigned building. Assist the School Nurses with routine individual school needs across the district, including immunizations record review, height/weight screenings, and emergency medical supply checks. Assist with medication administration for the general student population under the direction of the School Nurse(s). Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff for minor injuries and illnesses. Execute medical procedures safely and effectively under the direction of the School Nurse, including seizure management, and catheterization, as necessary. 3. Health Care Program Support Support the district's Before Care Program by ensuring students with established health needs (e.g., diabetics and monitoring of sugar, students requiring specific morning medications or treatments) receive safe and timely care prior to the start of the school day. Collaborate with the School Nurses to update IHCPs and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students transitioning into or out of the Before Care Program. Assist with health screenings, such as vision and hearing. Responsibilities: Manage and monitor chronic health conditions, such as asthma and diabetes, for assigned students (May include before/after school hours, based on needs). Support school nurses in maintaining comprehensive health records for all students, including immunization records and health screenings. Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and school staff regarding student health issues and needs. Respond to health-related emergencies in a calm and efficient manner. Follow all district policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned by the administration. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to provide basic medical care to students as needed. Ability to monitor health and vital signs. Ability to administer medications as prescribed. Meticulous record keeping is required. Collaboration with RN’s is required. Salary Range: $32 - $36/hour (commensurate with experience) Schedule: 10 Month Position (with opportunity for for Extended School Year) Part-Time (18 hours/week) 7:30am - 2:30pm Tuesday & Wednesday 8:30am - 12:30pm Friday This description is not meant to be all-inclusive and the LPN shall be expected to perform additional tasks as assigned.
