Full-Time and Permanent; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year
Minimum Qualifications
- Endorsement in the State of Virginia as a reading specialist (master's degree in Reading required)
- Minimum of at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility
- Leadership skills necessary to assist teachers, parents and administrators as a
- Familiarity with reading and writing
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in the field of
Nature of Position
- Provide professional development, coaching, and planning focusing on tier 1 reading and writing instruction
- Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
- Designs and delivers instruction for students, small groups, and/or classes assigned to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines and shows evidence of lesson preparation upon request of administrator (s)
- Diagnosis individual, group, and program needs and plans for the appropriate use of time, materials, technology, and resources to promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills
- Evaluates students’ progress; provides students with specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress information for reports
- Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations and documents student learning gains using a variety of appropriate assessment instruments
- Differentiates instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Selects, evaluates, and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement and self-motivation of students and improvement of student learning
- Implements discipline practices that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
- Manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time, in order to motivate students to achieve maximum potential
- Works collaboratively with other teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population
- Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of personal professional development
- Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies
- Communicates with special education and classroom teachers, students, student counselors, and parents through conferences and other means
- Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as required
- Provides support for the special education and classroom teachers in relation to the Standards of Learning, remediation, acceleration, and the district curriculum
- Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school/system policies and practices
- Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions
