Full-Time and Permanent; Non-Exempt; 8 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade MM
General Responsibilities
Performs a variety of skilled Master Level repairs and modifications. Maintenance and installation of new and existing generators, exhaust fans and moving and hauling furniture. Serves as a crew leader. Work is performed under the general supervision of the designated shop supervisor. The incumbent monitors, instructs and/or oversees the trades workers II and III and contractors. The incumbent may provide written or oral information to the shop supervisor regarding the progress of work and subordinates. Performs related work as directed by supervisor.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience with roofing and moving equipment desired.
License/Certification
A valid Virginia driver's license accepted by Norfolk Public Schools permitting its holder to operate an NPS vehicle.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs maintenance tasks at various locations.
- Oversees the work of subordinate level workers in the shop and participates in performing a variety of preventive maintenance tasks to include but not limited to installing and repairing roofing, exhaust fans, generators and ventilations.
- Moving and hauling furniture and other equipment to various NPS buildings and fixed sites.
- Ability to plan and perform work of the trade at the full Master-Skill level, ability to perform well under emergency repair situations.
- Knowledgeable of common hazards and safety precautions.
- Inclement weather response- Maintain snowplows and snow blowers, distribute snow removal equipment to various sites.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement within the framework of well-defined procedures.
- Review and reconcile transaction logs.
Physical Attributes
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and climb up and down ladders.
- Ability to work in uncomfortable positions for an extended perior of time.
- Ability to work on roofs.
- Required to wear safety equipment as necessary (dust masks, rubber gloves, safety shoes).
Unusual Demands
- Work is performed inside and outside of school buildings.
- Work may require unusual working hours and in inclement weather (essential personnel).
- Overtime and weekend hours may be required.
- In the absence of the supervisor, incumbent may be required to respond to emergency situations.
Hazards
- Work may involve exposure to electrical shock, gases, oils, strong solvents, dust, mold, extreme temperatures and excessive noise levels.
