JOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL - Middle School
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma
- First aid/CPR certificate desired
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 6 hours/day; school year only (9 months)
JOB GOAL: Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

- Consistent and punctual “on site” attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
- Types, draws, writes and duplicates instructional material; makes educational games and aids
- Listens to students read, and reads to students
- Helps students with make-up work
- Assists in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
- Assists students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
- Drills - to reinforce any skill the teacher has taught
- Alerts teacher to needs of students
- Assists teacher in checking progress of individualized study projects
- Supervises lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms and other assigned activities
- Prepares bulletin boards, charts, and graphs
- Assists with the physical and health needs of the children, such as feeding and toileting
- Assists with augmentative communication/electronic devices/be willing to be trained for use
- Does miscellaneous typing and filing
- Inventories books, materials and equipment
- Assists when emergencies arise
- Performs other delegated non-instructional responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator
