Job Title: COMPENSATION & BENEFITS ASSISTANT
Shift Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Schedule may be adjusted during payroll processing weeks.
Starting Rate: $28.7355 PER HOUR / $59,769.8413 ANNUAL

JOB SUMMARY: The Compensation and Benefits Assistant with the processing, auditing and submitting of the biweekly payroll. Responsible for the processing and submission of payroll in the absence of the Payroll Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Assists with the processing, auditing and submitting of the biweekly payroll. Responsible for the processing and submission of payroll in the absence of the Payroll Coordinator.
- Assists with the preparations/processing of special projects as it relates to compensation for Authority employees to include cost of living adjustments, special bonuses and other payouts.
- Updates information in the payroll system.
- Enters and updates personnel information to include but not limited to compensation and benefits information in payroll system and Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Navigator.
- Updates information in benefits carrier websites to include but not limited to Virginia Retirement System (VRS), supplemental retirement plans, Health Retirement Account (HRA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
- Prepares and distributes Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) notices.
- Receives and processes COBRA payments.
- Prepares and distributes Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) forms and designation notices.
- Maintains FMLA calendars.
- Reviews and processes invoices and purchase orders for payment.
- Provides support during employee and community events to include but not limited to career fairs, Employee Appreciation Day, open enrollment meetings, wellness events, employee outings and holiday celebrations.
- Delivers and picks up mail, packages and items pertaining to the daily activities of the department.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.
- Administer and adhere to all Authority policies and guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following generally describes the knowledge, skills and abilities required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.
- Tact, diplomacy and the ability to keep information confidential.
- A strong ability to ensure accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with employees.
- Proficient in payroll software, Microsoft Office, and other relevant computer systems.
- Ability to be a team player.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Minimum of one (1) year of business school.
- Associates degree or higher education preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a staff assistant.
- Accounting and/or payroll experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Human Resources or payroll certification preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Desktop computer, phone system, fax, copier and laptop.
