Requirements:

· At least a high school diploma or GED equivalent

· California Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher, with an H or X endorsement (licensed as a hazardous waste transporter)

· 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification (can be completed after hire, but on employee’s own time)

· Hazardous waste experience

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday 7:30AM -4:00PM

Job Description:

Noreas, Inc. has a hazardous waste technician/driver position available on our Environmental Services contract to operate hazardous waste management facilities, including bilge and oily waste, industrial waste and containerized waste for the U.S. Navy in the San Diego Metro area. This person will drive throughout the Navy Southwestern Region, working at federal installations and other authorized areas to transport hazardous waste. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented with good communication and computer skills; have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions; and be able to work independently. 40-hour hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) certification is required but can be completed after hire on the employee’s own time. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting, packaging, consolidating, marking, labeling and transporting hazardous wastes.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Drive trucks (typically 5-ton stake bed) and to load/off-load waste at various generator sites and HWF's.
  • Inspect hazardous waste containers for structural integrity, proper identification markings, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory compliance.
  • Examine and prepare waste turn-in forms.
  • Uniform hazardous waste manifests.
  • Assist clients in the preparation of documents related to the turn-in of hazardous waste.
  • Load, secure, move, and position HM/HW using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
  • Work independently or under minimal supervision to receive, load, transport, and unload hazardous waste, and to properly mark containers for storage and transportation.
  • May be required to respond to hazardous and non-hazardous substance spill incidents and to assist in the cleanup of such substances

Physical Requirements:

Position requires standing and walking for extended periods of time, frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, grasping, stooping, crouching, bending, climbing, speaking, listening, sitting, and driving. The use of common hand tools and power tools such as: wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, brooms, shovels, pry bars, drills and reciprocating saws are required.

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a physical, including a drug screen, and a background check in order to obtain a government identification badge for use in accessing government facilities. The employee will also complete First Aid/AED Training, 8-hour HAZWOPER refreshers, OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health and other training as required for position at the employer’s expense.
